Window Tint Aftercare: Tips and Common Mistakes
Film quality and installation are half the story; the other half is how you care for it afterwards. Here is what to do and what to avoid.

You have just collected your car with new tint. Now the key question: how do you look after it? Window tint aftercare is simple but needs a little discipline, especially in the first days while the adhesive cures. In short: keep the windows closed for the period your technician specifies, do not clean the inside glass until you are told it is safe, and then use soft tools and gentle ammonia-free cleaners.
What is normal in the first days?
Tint is fitted using a mounting solution that is mostly squeezed out, but a small amount needs time to dry. You may notice light haze, small water spots under the film or slight differences between windows. This is normal and fades as the film cures. Timing varies with the weather and film type, so follow the period your technician gives you.
What not to do while it cures
- Do not roll the windows down until the technician says so.
- Do not press or pick at small bubbles; most disappear on their own.
- Do not clean the inside glass or stick anything on it.
- Take care that seat belts and bags do not catch the film edges.
Window tint aftercare: cleaning the right way
- Dust the glass gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth.
- Spray an ammonia-free cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto the glass.
- Wipe lightly without heavy pressure, then dry with a second clean cloth.
- Be careful around the edges.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Better option |
|---|---|
| Ammonia-based cleaners | Gentle ammonia-free cleaner |
| Rough sponges or paper towels | Soft microfibre cloth |
| Scraping with sharp tools | Moisten the spot and wipe gently |
| Opening windows too early | Wait as instructed |
Daily habits
Good window tint aftercare continues long after curing: park in the shade where possible, avoid hooks or clips on window edges, keep large items from rubbing the glass and mount phone holders or dash cams where they do not need to stick to the film.
When to contact the branch
Get in touch if bubbles or haze remain after the expected curing time, if an edge lifts or if the film’s appearance changes unusually. Carbon film carries a 10-year warranty and nano ceramic IR70 a lifetime warranty, subject to our warranty policy and card, so let the branch handle any issue rather than fixing it yourself.
